Operated by Kitchens Lane Stables, Inc.
Monastery Stables is a friendly full-care boarding barn located in Fairmount Park's Wissahickon Valley, at the end of Kitchen's Lane, in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, PA. Although we are conveniently located within 10 miles of Center City Philadelphia, Plymouth Meeting, Ardmore, or Willow Grove, we enjoy a six-acre country setting with direct access to the many miles of trails in the park.
The converted former bank barn has 22 stalls. Horses are turned out from morning to late afternoon each day in well-drained paddocks. We provide hay three times a day, and feed (a custom mix) twice daily, with owner-provided supplements as desired. Rubber-matted stalls are bedded in shavings and mucked daily.
Monastery has long been home to the Philadelphia Saddle Club, offering riders with some experience a cooperative alternative to individual horse ownership.
We have a large, lighted outdoor sand arena, and mowed fields for
riding in or just grazing in-hand after a ride. Boarders and Saddle
Clubbers enjoy dressage and jumping lessons from visiting instructors,
as well as trail riding. Instructor Misty Godfrey
is offering a lesson program at Monastery for children and adults,
in hunt seat or western riding.
